Introduction to Deep Paint 3D for Poserites

Deep Paint 3D is a great program - allowing texture effects that are almost impossible to achieve otherwise. It's not for the faint of heart, though. Deep Paint 3D is used with a wide range of programs, so the manual is very general in how to tie it in with other programs. These tutorials are structured with Poser users in mind.

The basic start-up guide

  1. Open the .obj file you want to texture. For Poser, it will be somewhere in the \Runtime\Geometries folder.

  2. When the dialog screen comes up, the most common set-up is as follows: Select the first material, hold down the shift key, and select the last material. Click on merge.

All of your materials are now combined into one material.

  3. Click on the edit/resize button. You will be prompted for the map size and can change the name of the "MERGED MATERIAL". You can also pick what channels you want to use at this time. (More on this in later tutorials.) The C channel is the color channel. For starting off with this program, the C channel is the easiest to experiement with.

Personally, I like going to 1024 x 1024 or higher for the map size.

  4. After that, you can then start painting on the figure and export it as one texture map. :File: Save As ... then choose your file format.)
DO NOT SAVE THE .OBJ FILE ITSELF!
If you save the .obj file, you'll lose all the material information. Don't worry, Deep Paint 3D will put the texture information where it needs to go.

Initially, play around with the program, especially the flood fill command. You'll get some nice effects without much effort. Go through the tutorials at Right Hemisphere. (If you're looking at this, you should definitely go through their tutorials!) I'll be posting other Deep Paint 3D tutorials as I find time.

I made it to the end of the Internet today. Boy was that last boss tough to beat!
